One of the things we are considering for the future, is adding a Reidland Shuttle, just for folks like yourself, perhaps to run a couple of times in the morning, and then again in the afternoon, to get you from Reidland to Paducah and back for work. If there is enough interest from potential riders like yourself, that will be investigated further. Please encourage others to let us know if they'd like this service, and at specific times for pickup and return, and we'll take a look at it.

In the meantime, I agree with you in wishing we could have advertised more, however, we simply don't have the money to do so, and must rely on the news media, and other "low cost" or "no cost" means to get our message across. When the Reidland leg of the Green Route was first proposed, diesel was about $2 a gallon cheaper than it is now. The 8 miles to Food Giant simply cost a huge amount of money that we cannot afford to absorb right now. The decision to drop that section of the route is one which we don't want to make, however, it's one we're forced to make because of funding, and the high price of fuel. If it becomes apparent that it can become more cost effective, it could return in some form.

We at PATS are not alone in this dilemma, as transits across the nation are forced to cut routes and curtail services because of funding and fuel issues, unfortunately at a time when ridership is up and our service is needed more than ever. In our case, the drastic cut in funding put us in an even more precarious position. Our operating budget was cut almost 40%, which is one of the biggest reasons we've had to cut some routes, cut some services and lay off almost 20% of our workforce. PATS is doing everything it can to survive the current financial bind, with hopes of adding back routes, services and our valued employees in the future.

Maybe there should have been more advertising abou...

Maybe there should have been more advertising about the new Green route.
